The difference
What makes a professional interior finish
The difference between a room that looks freshly painted and one that looks professionally painted is mostly in the preparation and the edges: cracks and dents filled and sanded flush, gaps between skirting and wall caulked, a straight line where the wall meets the ceiling, and two full coats that dry to an even colour with no roller marks or patchy sheen.
It is also in the choices you don’t see. A water stain bleeds through any emulsion unless it is sealed first. New plaster needs a thinned mist coat or the paint peels. Kitchens and bathrooms need a finish that copes with steam and scrubbing, and our guide to interior paint sheen explains which one.

- Fine lines at corners and around door frames, often after a house settles or is heated for the first time.

- Raked out, filled with a flexible filler where they move, sanded flush and spot-primed.

- Brown rings on the ceiling, or yellowing that comes back through new paint.

- Sealed with a stain-blocking primer first, so they don’t bleed through the finish coats.

What affects the cost of interior painting
We price every interior after seeing it, because these are the things a floor plan can’t tell us.

Rooms and what’s included
Ceiling height, the amount of woodwork, and whether ceilings, doors and skirting are included all change the time each room takes.

The condition of the surfaces
Sound walls need a light sand and two coats. Cracks, stains, old wallpaper or new plaster add preparation, and preparation is where most of the hours go.

Colour changes
Going from dark to light, or covering a strong colour, can need an extra coat or a primer.

Woodwork, units and access
Doors, banisters and kitchen units are sanded, filled, undercoated and finished one by one, and high stairwells or full rooms take longer to set up and protect.

How long does it take to paint a house interior?
It depends on the number of rooms, how much preparation the walls and woodwork need, and drying time between coats. Every room gets two coats on the walls and ceiling, and woodwork has its own undercoat and topcoat. We give you a clear timeline with the quote, based on the rooms and the preparation involved.
Do I need to move my furniture?
We ask that you move small breakables, but our team handles the heavy lifting. We protect furniture and flooring with professional-grade dust sheets and plastic sheeting.
Can I stay in the house while you paint?
Yes. We work room by room so the rest of the house stays usable, use low-VOC paints, and clean up at the end of every day. One of our Google reviews mentions how easily we worked around a young family’s schedule.
Do you help with choosing colours?
Yes. We help you choose colours that suit each room’s light and how it is used, and how the colours run from one room to the next.
What paint finish is best for a kitchen or bathroom?
A finish made for moisture and wiping, usually a durable matt or a soft sheen, rather than a standard emulsion that marks easily and lets mould take hold. Our guide to choosing paint sheen goes room by room.
Can you paint new plaster?
Yes, once it has dried out fully. New plaster first gets a thinned mist coat that soaks in and gives the finish coats something to bond to. Painting it too early, or with full-strength paint, is the most common reason new walls peel.
Do you paint kitchen cabinets?
Yes. Doors and frames are degreased, sanded and primed with a bonding primer before the finish coats, which is what stops paint on units chipping. Our kitchen cupboard painting guide walks through it.
